STATEMENT OF RESEARCH AND SCIENTIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 

The qualified candidate is responsible for performing and supervising research projects in the field of immunity to Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Research will focus on studying the function of human T cell responses to tuberculosis using primary human cells from blood and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples of healthy individuals previously infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and HIV. Work includes performing experiments, data analysis, oral and written presentation of results, writing manuscripts for publication and grant proposals for funding from the main funding entities (NIH/NIAID) and foundations. Candidates should be highly experienced in standard immunology research techniques and data analysis. Strongest consideration will be give to candidates with experience in bioinformatics anlysis of sequencing data including RNAseq, single-cell RNAseq and TCR sequencing.

The position provides an opportunity to make exciting discoveries and impact the fields of infectious disease and immunology, which includes experiments in a biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) lab, working with human cells, and sequencing data analysis.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

• A high level of experience with standard immunology techniques is essential. Required techniques include: immunomagnetic cell isolation, flow cytometry, ELISA/ELISPOT, fluorescent microscopy, western blotting, PCR and qPCR
• Experience working with with human or animal immune cell samples is required
• Experience with data analysis systems including Prism, FlowJo, Microsoft Excel, and required R-language packages for sequencing analysis (e.g. Seurat, DEseq2) is required
• Experience independently writing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals
• Bioinformatics experience for in-depth analysis of RNAseq, single-cell RNAseq, and TCR sequencing is preferred

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology or equivilent.
• Experience with in vitro human or murine live T cell assays, flow cytometry, and in vivo assays in mouse or non-human primate models is essential.
• The successful candidate must have strong analytical, oral and written communication skills.
• Experience managing graduate students and research technicians is preferred
